Changelog

New components, blocks and design updates.

October 2026 — Free blocks

Five smaller windows are free to install, built only from the free components. The app windows, such as Finder and Mail, stay part of CupertinoUI Pro.

October 2026 — Design sources

Every value in the theme now has a documented source in macOS itself. See Design Sources.

  • Colors, text styles, control heights and control radii were checked against what AppKit reports. A few values moved to match it: --mac-selection (#0064e1, and #0059d1 in dark), --mac-label-tertiary (26% in light), --mac-fill-quinary (0.8%), --mac-control (8% in dark) and the dark --mac-gray (#98989d).
  • Windows and dialogs have 16pt corners (--mac-radius-window), measured from macOS 27 windows. The value was 26px.
  • The site’s wallpaper is CupertinoUI’s own “Drift”.
  • The desktop demo has its own Dock icons and a CupertinoUI mark in the menu bar.
  • CupertinoUI is MIT licensed.

October 2026 — macOS 27

Every component was restyled after macOS 27 and checked against real screenshots.

  • Built on Base UI instead of Radix, like shadcn/ui’s Base UI edition. Elements are composed with render rather than asChild, e.g. <Button render={<Link href="/docs" />} nativeButton={false}>, and Pop-up Buttons take an items map for their labels.
  • Every shadcn/ui component, in macOS style: Accordion, Alert, Aspect Ratio, Attachment, Badge, Breadcrumb, Bubble, Button Group, Calendar, Card, Carousel, Code Block, Collapsible, Combo Box, Command (as Spotlight), Direction, Drawer, Empty, Field, Hover Card, Input Group, Item, Kbd, Marker, Message, Message Scroller, Native Select, Navigation Menu, OTP Input, Pagination, Questionnaire, Resizable, Scroll Area (with overlay scrollers), Skeleton, Spinner (the twelve-spoke macOS one), Table, Toast (as macOS notifications), Toggle, Toggle Group and Trace.
  • Flat bordered buttons with medium-weight labels; large and extra-large buttons are capsules.
  • Liquid Glass toolbar capsules (Toolbar Button Group) that also work like radio buttons for a view switcher, and toolbar search fields.
  • Switches with pill-shaped knobs in four sizes, 16pt checkboxes and radio buttons, and pill-shaped slider knobs.
  • Menus with 24pt items and rounded highlights; alerts with a 34pt radius and capsule buttons.
  • Full-height sidebars that hold the traffic lights, and inactive windows that grey out their accent color.
  • Draggable windows: <Window draggable> moves by its title bar or toolbar, with optional bounds and a controlled position.
  • Sidebar search: MacSidebarSearch filters the items as you type, hides empty sections and shows MacSidebarEmpty when nothing matches.
  • Resizable windows: <Window resizable> resizes by its edges and corners between minSize and maxSize, and double-clicking an edge stretches it to the edge of the parent.
  • File lists from JSON: FileListTable and FileListColumns take the same files tree, with folders nested to any depth, and handle expanding, the arrow keys and Finder’s multiple selection: drag over items, Shift-click or ⌘-click. Drag the selection onto a folder to move it, press ⌘⌫ to delete it, and double-click a file to open it. Right-click for Finder’s menu: rename in place, duplicate, tag, copy or make a new folder.
  • Icon and gallery views: FileListIconView shows a folder as big icons and thumbnails, grouped under sticky headers with groupBy, with names wrapped and shortened like Finder’s and a rectangle to drag out. FileListGalleryView shows a large preview over a strip of thumbnails, with the file’s information and quick actions. Both take the same files tree, and the Finder blocks switch between all four views.
  • Finder’s preview pane: FileListColumns previews a selected file with FileListColumnsPreview, a large document icon labeled with its extension (with a zipper for archives), its name, kind, size, dates and tags. The icon and gallery views use the same document icon.
  • Charts: Chart is shadcn/ui’s Recharts chart, restyled after Swift Charts with secondary axis labels, hairline grids, round markers and a glass tooltip. The homepage’s Battery and CPU cards use it.
  • Window effects: the traffic lights close, minimize and zoom. minimized plays the Genie effect into a Dock tile and maximized zooms the window to fill its parent.
  • New components: Dock, Search Field, Menu Bar, File List Table, File List Columns, File List Icon View, File List Gallery View, Chart, Grouped Form, Icon Tile and Avatar.
  • New blocks: Finder in column, list, icon and gallery view, System Settings, Mail, Notes, Safari, Calendar and About This Mac.
